The YMCA plans to construct a new facility of approximately
75,000 sq. ft., costing $10 million.
-
The building will be located on the 25-acre Community
Campus on the east side of West Avenue.
-
The campus was purchased from the Grande family at a
reduced price through funds generously donated in part
by Barbara Glaser and Stewart’s, with the balance
of the purchase price coming from existing YMCA monies.
-
The site is approximately ¼ mile from the Junior/Senior
High School complex, and will be connected to the center
of the City by an extension of the Community Bike/Pedestrian
path. The Bike/Pedestrian Path connection will also give
the community an opportunity to connect the path system
into the Spa State Park.
-
The new facility will contain childcare, a teen center,
social areas and community space intended to promote intergenerational
communications and contact.
-
The building will house an 8-lane competition pool, gym,
multiple locker rooms, 8,000 square foot state-of-the-art
fitness center and a 9 lap to the mile track constructed
above the gym.
-
The YMCA presently has over 12,000 members and has been
expanding at the rate of 10% per year over the last several
years.
-
The new facility will offer its members approximately
300 parking spaces with drop-off/pick-up areas safely
and conveniently located adjacent to the building.
-
The YMCA will continue to operate all of its facilities
at Wilton, Corinth and Malta. A decision has been made
to sell the Broadway facility but this branch will remain
fully operational until the West avenue Branch is opened.
-
Building a new facility makes good fiscal sense. The
YMCA of Saratoga generates 90% of its revenue through
programs and membership fees. Membership is expected to
jump 33% in the first year in the new building.
-
This campaign will enhance the opportunity to continue
to fund scholarships and continue the Y’s policy
of making all programs available to members of our community,
without regard to income level.
-
The Community Campus also presents the opportunity for
commercial expansion along the West Avenue Corridor, consistent
with the City’s plan for growth, and to provide
future income to the YMCA.
